Biography:
Pietro De Francisco was born in Palermo on November 10, 1873. In 1894 he joined the Institute of Fine Arts in Palermo where he took classes with Francesco Lojacono and Salvatore Marchesi until 1898 In 1900 After obtaining a national scholarship for painting, he moved to Rome and won the Prix de Rome.
In 1904 he married Giulia Candori, in Rome, on December 31. In 1905 he changed his surname to De Francisco at the town hall of Palermo.
1917 he published the book "Rinnoviamo la pittura - Pittura energetica". In 1920/21 he painted Tunisia with his new partner Clara Valentini, which was as successful in Tunisia as in Paris where he settled and obtained French citizenship in 1930. From 1936/38 he stayed in Vézelay. He married Clara Valentini, they lived in Saint-Tropez then settled in Menton where he died in 1969, three years after his wife.
