"Spanish School (19th-20th Century) - The Officer And The Lady"
- Oil on thick taffeta canvas. - Couple from La Acerolera (P-782), Goya confronts in these two scenes two types of women, the fopimetra and the maja, belonging to different social classes. Here, the father-in-law imitates the artificial lifestyle of the French. The presumptuous affectation of his lover underlines the ridiculousness of the couple. The narrow and elongated format indicates that it was intended for a narrow and side street in the decoration of the room, probably next to a door or window. The tapestry thus obtained was intended to decorate the bedroom of the princes of Asturias (the future Charles IV and his wife María Luisa de Parma) of the Pardo Palace, near Madrid, opposite the Madrid fair. The series of which it was part, dated between 1778 and 1779, was composed of seven cartoons on various subjects, six of which are preserved in the Prado Museum. - Dimensions of the image without frame: 90 x 60 cm / 94 x 65 cm with beautiful frame. - It comes from a private collection of paintings from Anglet. - Good general condition.
