"Jacques Chevalier (1924-1999), Oil On Canvas, Abstract Composition, 20th Century"
Large format, beautiful work of the touch of colors and the rendering of the material. Good general condition. Dimensions; 153 x 52 cm Entered the Beaux-Arts in 1937, but quickly left official education. Influenced by Georges Rouault, he exhibited for the first time in Paris in 1948; at the Foyers de la Culture at 155 Bd Haussmann. After having practiced different professions, he chose from 1952 to devote himself exclusively to painting. The artist visited the famous painter and sculptor Georges Braque in 1953. The rest of his work will then be marked by this meeting. Then in 1954 Jacques Chevalier exhibited again in the capital but this time at the Tronche gallery, rue Percière. He moved to Paris the same year. He then found painting a constant and vital need for expression. In October 1955, he received a very good review during his exhibition at the Duncan gallery on rue de Seine, and subsequently exhibited at the Galerie Gérard Mourgue. He represents both landscapes of the Morvan and abstract compositions, his painting is not only the reproduction of what the eye can recognize, it is a matter of plastic creation and not imitation. The colors applied in square touches play with each other like a stained glass window in the sense that he constructs a colorful assembly of warm and cold shades. To give it more brilliance, he sometimes covers it with a layer of glossy varnish. The artist loves the material, his paste is thick and rich in nuance. All his work reflects a desire to seek harmony, dynamism and lyricism.
