"Pair Of Jennings Serpentine Dogs Circa 1800 After The Antique"
Pair of Jennings serpentine dogs from the end of the 18th or the very beginning of the 19th century, after the antique. The original marble sculpture from the 2nd century, found in Rome, may have been executed after a Greek bronze. Its name refers to the antique dealer Henry Constantine JENNINGS who acquired it in the 18th century. Like most antique works, it was the subject of numerous reproductions in different materials, intended for amateurs, mainly during the 18th and early 19th centuries. The pair that we present is sculpted in a most refined stone, serpentine. Very pretty patina and polish of time. Perfect state of conservation, with just small old and non-serious losses to the ears. Dimensions: 14 X 8 X 16.5 cm
