Object description :

"French Painted Escritoire Desk"
This is an elegant 20th-century French Louis Philippe-style walnut painted escritoire, also known as a "secretaire à abattant," featuring a charming light blue painted finish. It has a rounded, molded top over a frieze drawer. The fall front opens to reveal a fully outfitted interior, designed with a shaped cornice, six functional drawers, and a spacious niche for storing books and letters. The writing surface, supported by large brass hinges, is upholstered with a leather top. The lower section features double doors with adjustable shelves for additional storage, all raised on four shaped bun feet. The interior is painted in a soft, chalky white. This desk would make a practical and stylish addition to a small library or study, as it can be quickly folded up to free up space. It includes working locks and the original keys. The secretary is in very good, clean, and well-maintained condition throughout.
