This representation of Madame Récamier, naked, covered only by a veil that she holds with her hands crossed on her chest, her head slightly inclined, her gaze lowered, thick curly hair held by a headband wrapped around her head, was originally sculpted by Joseph Chinard (1756-1813) then taken up by Jean-Antoine Houdon (1741-1828).
Our bust comes from a French or Italian workshop from the end of the 19th century, the finesse of execution is remarkable. The marble, coming from the Carrara quarries in Italy, is a perfect white, without any stain.
