Very rare anaesthetic mouth gag for introducing chloroform vapour, circa 1870 This classic, but early, form of Ferguson type mouth gag is by the London manufacturer, Mayer & Meltzer, whose partnership lasted from 1869 to the early 1880s. The present example dates from the 1870s. However, this classic form of mouth gag has been supplemented with two metal tubes which run along the arms of the mouth gag and, in combination with a Junker apparatus, allow chloroform vapour to be administered to the patient.
