Born in Paris and died in Eaubonne in the Val-d'Oise, Charles Henri Contencin is a French mountain painter. He painted many oils of the great Alpine massifs, mainly the Mont-Blanc massif and the Écrins massif. His palette is characteristic and he particularly appreciates the effects of sunrise or sunset on snow or glaciers.
(Note two small retouches to be reviewed at the bottom right and small jumps of pigments located on the left; see last photo on this subject).
