Miniature Clock In Gilt Bronze Signed Autray
Artist: Autray à Paris
A finely chiseled, gilt bronze Louis XV style miniature clock, topped with a brown patinated bronze putto holding an apple, a symbol of abundance and fertility. The curved, lively body, adorned with finely crafted rocaille decorations, scrolls, acanthus leaves, and stylized shells, illustrates the 19th-century rediscovery of the decorative refinement typical of the 18th century.
The circular white enamel dial with Roman numerals is signed Autray. The gilt brass hands, openworked and finely cut, retain their original design. The movement, likely wire-suspended, is housed in a fine-quality case, testifying to the care taken in its craftsmanship.
Autray Fils, a Parisian clockmaker, worked successively on rue d'Aboukir (1812), rue des Fossés-Montmartre (1812), and then rue Bourbon-Villeneuve (1817–1831). His name is associated with elegant timepieces, often inspired by historical styles.
Condition: Good overall condition, with well-preserved gilding. Requires servicing (missing glass and key). Normal maintenance.
Dimensions: Height: 16.7 cm – Width: 11.5 cm – Depth: 6.2 cm. Weight: 800 g.
Certificate of authenticity. Customized delivery.
