A beautiful pair of English Copeland porcelain vases, decorated with flowers, in the style of Fredrick Hurten. The date of these vases is between 1867 and 1895, which can be seen from the mark used on the bottom. Earthenware and porcelain from the Spode factory In 1770 in Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire, Josiah Spode took over an old pottery to start making fine English earthenware. His son, Josiah Spode II, took over the factory in 1797. In 1821 the first soft phosphatic porcelains (stone china) appeared. In 1836, William Copeland became director. He joined forces with Thomas Garret. The company took the name Copeland and Sons in 1867.
