- Work currently under expertise -
A spring scene on the Boulevard des Capucines in Paris. Based (or not) on Claude Monet's two paintings "Le Boulevard des Capucines" from 1874, one of the works depicts the Boulevard in winter, while the other is partly depicted under the sun. (Exposition de l'Impressionnisme in 1874). The composition "Boulevard des Capucines" is one of the emblematic works of Impressionism. It depicts a snapshot of Parisian life on this bustling boulevard. It captures the movement and energy of the urban scene with quick brushstrokes and bright colors. The silhouettes of passers-by, carriages and partially bare trees mingle in a visual dance, reflecting the bustle of the city. Light plays a crucial role in this work, with cast shadows and reflections that give depth to the scene. This is a wonderful example of Impressionism's ability to capture the ephemeral beauty of everyday moments. Also, this work, with a larger format of 40 cm, was possibly inspired by the composition executed by Jean Claude Monet, who made two copies of it. The subject "Boulevard des Capucines" will also be the emblematic work of the first exhibition on Impressionism in 1874, but again during its 150th anniversary, in 2024, at the Musée d'Orsay. Today, we offer you this rare version of "Boulevard des Capucines" in a framed format measuring 170 cm x 130 cm.

Jacques Deveau is a French post-impressionist Parisian painter, who died in October 2022 at the age of 85. His work was devoted to depicting Parisian life as well as leisure life, particularly on the beaches of the Côte Fleurie (Deauville, Trouville, etc.). His works often depict beautiful ladies and children playing on the sand. His rich impasto technique and use of light and color capture scenes of quiet beauty and joie de vivre. Also prized for his scenes of Paris, such as those of the Grands Boulevards, he was able to evoke through his compositions the spirit of the Old Masters, while continuing to depict a more modern society. Here is the work of the painter, who has been represented by many leading galleries and whose works are held in private collections around the world.
