François Grenier de Saint-Martin was a French painter and a student of Jacques-Louis David as well as Pierre Narcisse Guerin. He exhibited at the Salon de Paris starting in 1810, when he presented his version of
Atala, and continued to do so until his death in 1860.
He began his career with Napoleonic scenes, but after the Restoration, he shifted towards genre and rural scenes. Numerous lithographs helped make him popular during the 19th century.
