Augustus Prima Porta Bronze with brown patina, sea green marble base Rome, late 19th century H. 18 x 7 x 6 cm Collection label on the reverse Our small bronze represents the Emperor Octavian Augustus of the prima porta type (in reference to the position of the locks of hair). Augustus is represented as Imperator, armored like a hero, a cupid on his right side sitting on a dolphin. On his armor is represented the historical scene of the restitution of a standard lost by Crassus in 53 BC, at the Battle of Carrhae. The original bronze statue was certainly placed inside the Mausoleum of Augustus.
