Oil On Canvas By Maurice Bilbeaud (1919 -1997) - The Vigil

Oil on canvas, depicting a vigil in a family probably of gypsies, with cubist forms. The lines are refined, the colors contrasted and powerful in a beautiful thickness of paste. Signed lower left: M.Bilbeaud. Maurice Bilbeaud is a post-impressionist painter born in Sète in 1919, died in 1997 in Nice. Painter of nudes, animated landscapes, still life, marine. After the war, he drew for the newspaper Midi Libre. He frequented the studio of François Desnoyer, based in Sète. In 1973, he won the UNESCO prize in Monaco. In 1975, he was admitted to the Salon des peintres témoins de leur temps in Paris where from 1975 to 1978, he exhibited at the Salon d'Automne. He exhibited mainly in the cities of the south of France and in Paris. Listed in the Bénézit. Period: second part of the 20th century.
