Manit Ozère (1896-1976) Painter and sculptor of Hungarian origin, real name Frédéric HAUSER, he settled in Vallauris around 1945, where he frequently received his friends Picasso, Cocteau and Raty. As an accomplished artist, he painted and sculpted. Picasso recognized Ozére as a great artist and would say of his art that it was talented and diversified. He practiced surrealist painting, which can be found in his pottery decorations. He has been established on the Route de Saint-Bernard, in Vallauris since 1945. He experimented with colored earths in order to give a pictorial effect to his pieces; but it is easier to find ceramics with a wonderful incised decoration on a plain or speckled background. He created a fountain for the Plaza de Nice, now demolished, and a wall panel for the Biot leisure complex. His pieces, whether paintings, sculptures or pottery, are now rather rare on the market, hence very good results at auctions, we can notably note a 65x54cm painting sold for more than €2,700 in May 2024 in Budapest. Ozère is referenced in all the major works on ceramics from the 1950s in Vallauris, but also among Hungarian painters, also listed on Artprice etc... I sold a few years ago a very beautiful painting representing a portrait.
