Vien's landscape drawings from his stay in Rome in the 1740s-1750s are rare and relatively poorly known, unlike his painted work. However, with the exception of the sheets from notebooks, the artist seems to have exclusively favored blue papers combined with black stone and white chalk. In addition, his subtle way of drawing with hatching and jerky lines is quite characteristic of his style. It is fully reflected in our drawing. Our drawing is similar to a sheet kept at the Metropolitan Museum in New York of similar subject, technique and dimensions (see the photos).
