Received Master in 1761. His mark: N. Petit can be found on a quantity of furniture in Marquetry and Ebony, which prove his Taste and Talent. Having become a Master in 1761, Nicolas Petit opened his workshop on rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine, under the name "Au Nom de Jésus" He worked there for more than thirty years, adapting without problem to the evolution of the different styles of the 18th century and very quickly acquired a great reputation. His career began with very refined Louis XV style curved chests of drawers, secretaries, desks, small tables, finely inlaid with flowering branches. With the appearance of the "Greek taste" he was inspired by classical art for the decoration of his furniture. His Transition Chests of Drawers are often decorated with bronze made of two urns topped with drapery, others are inlaid with geometric patterns or flowers. In the Louis XVI style, he mainly made solid wood furniture, which he decorated with lacquered panels or mosaics. Overall, Nicolas Petit's furniture, with simple and classic decorations, is always tasteful and carefully made. Work from the Louis XVI period, around 1780, 18th century.
