"Small Golden Lacquer Box - Butterflies In Flowers - Japan - Kobako - 19th Century"
Small diamond-shaped Japanese box (or “kobako”) in “kinji” (bright gold) lacquer, decorated in “hiramaki-e” (slight relief) gold lacquer with butterflies in flowers.The edges of the lid and box are in “fundame” (mat gold) lacquer; the base, inside of the lid and bottom are in “kin nashiji” (irregular gold flakes) lacquer.
Japan, Edo period (1603-1868) / first half of the 19th century.
Good condition.
