Bordeaux Faience, 5 18th Century Plates, Greyhound Decor, Shades Of Green & Manganese

Rare set of five plates in 18th century southwestern earthenware, manufactured in Bordeaux.

Each one features a painted green monochrome décor highlighted with manganese, known as “à la levrette”; hollow in shape, they feature a festoon-like outer rim underlined by two fillets.
The wings are decorated with leafy, flowering twigs emanating from small mounds; each one is centered with the famous “doggy style” decoration, the little dog shown here head left on a mound, standing on its hind legs between two flowering bushes; in the distance, a barrier can be seen represented by a few lines.
