"Stable Scene With Two Cows. Louis Coignard. Hsp 22 X 27 Cm"
Louis Coignard, (September 4, 1812, Mayenne - November 20, 1880, Paris), French painter. He was the son of Élisabeth Sigoigne, youngest daughter of a large bourgeois family from Mayenne and Aimé Coignard, a bourgeois from Mayenne who had purchased national property. His parents intended him to become a notary but the young boy was only passionate about painting. He came to study in Paris with François-Édouard Picot. A landscape painter, he made his debut at the Salon of 1838. Edmond About praised him. This allowed him to leave his profession as a painter. His works were highly prized by the bourgeoisie of Mayenne and Sarthe even if he continued to pursue a career in Paris.
