The handles of the cutlery are made of twisted translucent glass. The truncated cone-shaped bases are made of silver-gilt.
The fork and spoon are very rounded, with elegantly cut teeth.
This is a superb, very elegant cutlery set, made with a remarkable economy of forms, typical of the Art Deco period, in reaction to the organic lines of Art Nouveau.
Each piece is hallmarked:
. Minerva 1st title before 1973 for 950/°° silver

A highly talented goldsmith, Alphonse Debain presented his first works at the Universal Exhibition of 1889 where he won a gold medal. In 1900 he was part of the jury. Straddling the 19th and 20th centuries, he is particularly known for his Art Nouveau production but also made magnificent Art Deco pieces such as this salad server.
His works are exhibited in many museums, such as the magnificent "pumpkin" teapot at the MAD.
Very elegant salad server combining two admirably contrasting materials: glass and vermeil.
