"Hidden Lithotome, France, 1830-1840"
Lithotome with hidden blade, after the model developed by Frédéric Charrière. The instrument is made of steel and blued steel, guilloché ebony and silver. It is not signed but attributable, without any doubt, to the work of Charrière and datable to the years 1830-1840. Following the invention of the hidden lithotome by Frère Côme in the 1750s, Charrière modified the instrument in the 1830s by replacing the large rotating handle with a small cursor. Very fine example, beautifully made, in perfect working order. 24 cm long.
