Object description :

"Japanese Edamame Lacquer Box - Japan"
Kanshitsu lacquer box (called dry lacquer) and mother-of-pearl inlay in the shape of a soybean pod with three small boxes in the shape of soybeans, edamame, inside.

Soybeans are often served as an aperitif.
We can well imagine edamames elegantly served in these boxes to guests.

Very beautiful original work by the Japanese artist Yasuo Nagai (born in 1945) known for his very original and high-quality dry lacquer creations.

The colors used are also atypical and more contemporary.

Kanshitsu lacquer, unlike traditional lacquer, has a textile base coated with layers of lacquer allowing freer shapes.

Japan, circa 1990, 45 x 10 x 8 cm.
