The brush is rectangular, slightly scalloped. The core is made of wood, covered with a silver plate entirely decorated with a magnificent portrait of an Indian chief and his attributes.
This profile was drawn after the famous Sitting Bull, wearing a "war bonnet".
He is depicted surrounded by many objects associated with Native Americans: Bow and quiver, tomahawk, brain teaser, etc.
The brush is hallmarked:
. In full "Sterling 925 Fine"
. Partially struck Unger Brothers goldsmith's hallmark
This company was active from 1872 to 1910 in the United States. Many works produced by this goldsmith are now preserved in American museums.
The "Indian chief" pieces produced by Unger Brothers are rare and highly sought after because of their very strong decorative effect and the richness of the iconography. If Sitting Bull's face is found on the production of the Unger brothers, it is much rarer to see this "extended" decoration with the many attributes of the leader.
