BEAUTIFUL painting by ¨ EGISTO SARRI ¨ Egisto Sarri is an Italian painter active in the 19th century. Egisto Sarri studied from 1850 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence with Giuseppe Bezzuoli and Enrico Pollastrini. In 1858, he joined the studio of Antonio Ciseri. His works were quickly noticed by critics. Egisto Sarri lived and worked in Florence, frequenting the Caffe Michelangiolo. However, he was not influenced by the "Macchiaioli" and remained faithful to the academic style of his master Antonio Ciseri. He painted many portraits, religious scenes and allegories. In April 1863, after a visit to the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, King Victor Emmanuel II commissioned him to paint an important historical painting, Corradino di Svevia. In 1903, Victor Emmanuel III offered the painting to the Uffizi Gallery. But it is his series of paintings called "Pompeianas" made between 1875 and 1887 that brought him fame. These are intimate scenes of family life, set in the classical architecture of Roman or Pompeian patrician houses.
