The box is oval in shape. The lid and bottom are made of faceted agate plates set in a solid silver setting.
The plates are held in place by a setting made up of a multitude of small claws, typical work of England or Germanic countries such as the Netherlands or Germany. The hinge or typology of this box are also typical of the 18th century but we also find such boxes at the end of the 17th century.
The agate plates are superb with a very beautiful transparency and a magnificent veining.
The box is hallmarked with a swan, a later French census hallmark.
Superb box dating from the 18th century or before combining a hard stone and solid silver.
