Object description :

"The Awakening, After Dh Chiparus, Silvered Bronze, Art Deco, 20th Century"
Silver-plated bronze sculpture of a naked woman stretching, entitled "the awakening"

This sculpture is not signed, but is based on the model of DH Chiparus, which can be found in different patinas, but is rarely signed

Wear to the patina and tiny traces of blows

DH Chiparus (1886-1947) is the most representative artist of Art Deco sculpture: born in Romania, he studied in Florence before settling in Paris, where he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts. During the interwar period, he was the leader for Parisian artists.
He is particularly known for his chryselephantine sculptures representing dancers in fanciful and theatrical outfits, but also represented children and everyday scenes. The chryselephantine technique, already used in Ancient Greece, is the fact of mixing ivory with another material, such as bronze, marble or even gold in a work, giving it both a precious and highly decorative aspect.

He drew his inspiration from Russian ballets, the Music Hall then very fashionable, and from the discoveries of his time (in Egypt in particular)
