"Philosopher Priest By Pierre Labatie (1736-1778)"
In a warm and refined composition, Pierre LABATIE depicts a priest in deep thought while reading. The religious were the symbol of knowledge and wisdom. For this reason, we discover, hung on the wall various paintings and other sketches. At the back of the composition is the library full of bound books, showing us knowledge. Our very pretty painting, although relined in the 19th century, needs a good cleaning because it is very dirty. It is signed at the bottom left.
