"Edmond Louis Dupain - Portraits Of Mr And Mrs Bellemer Oil On Canvas Circa 1884"
Edmond Louis Dupain - Portraits of Mr and Mrs Bellemer oil on canvas circa 1884

Edmond Louis Dupain's portraits of Théodore Bellemer and his wife are of a very high quality, acquired from Alexandre Cabanel, whose academic style can be seen in these two paintings, done in 1884.

Théodore Bellemer, a well-known Bordeaux wine merchant, acquired Château de Priban and its vineyards in 1879. A detail in the painting shows a book open to the page of Château de Priban, demonstrating his attachment to the estate and his upward social mobility.

The details of the faces, hands, book and jewellery in these two portraits are superbly realistic and beautiful.

Sizes unframed: H 38.58 In. - W 30.70 In.

In fine original condition, on their original unrestored canvas. We have decided not to start cleaning them.

Provenance:

This pair of portraits was purchased from a branch of the Bellemer family.

Château Priban is located at the entrance to the commune of Macau, to the south of the town, on the road linking Ludon to Macau. In 1879, the merchant Théodore Bellemer bought the château, renovated it and even rebuilt it.
