This estampe exudes a lot of refinement and distinction.
The cigarette gives the portrait a certain aristocratic superiority, supported by the delicate gesture of the other hand lifting a transparent veil.

He was a student of Gustave Moreau and Elie Delaunay, he exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Français and won numerous medals, notably in 1900, for the Universal Exhibition, where he won the gold medal and was made a knight of the Legion of Honor.
He is today especially appreciated for his symbolist compositions, mainly figures of women, evolving in a legendary, timeless and dreamlike universe. This "Woman with an Orchid" is one of the orders placed with him by Justin Bardou, the owner of the cigarette paper firm Job.
