"Small Lady's Desk With Steps In Precious Wood, Louis XV Style, Napoleon III Period – Mid 11th Century"
This small rosewood veneer stepped lady's desk is generously inlaid with small rosewood and rosewood diamonds. These marquetries are highlighted by lemonwood fillets and scalloped bronze rods. The lively tops are highlighted at the edge by larger bronze moldings. This piece of furniture opens partly stepped by two small drawers with delicately chiseled bronze handles decorated with acanthus leaves. The belt also has a large compartmentalized drawer, forming a writing desk, equipped with an original functional lock with chiseled entry and later key. Open, the sliding shelf, decorated with a brass tab, is dressed in later red leather with gilded vignettes, corner motifs and central motif. The whole rests on four curved whiplash legs with acanthus leaf drop, corner rod and ending with bronze sabots. This lady's desk with very soft lines will seduce lovers of art furniture for the quality of its woods and its size. ******** Period: Mid-19th century Excellent condition. Varnished finish.
