Object description :

"Polylobed Cup In Painted Enamel XVIIth Century"
Six-lobed cup in polychrome painted enamel on copper.
In the centre, in a grisaille hexagon with gilded highlights, is a warrior (Hercules) brandishing a sword and a shield. Her gestures, her posture, the movement of her tunic, her hair, amplify her action, which seems determined. At its feet, a lion with a long golden tail looks at us, in the background, a small shrub is slightly sketched. Each lobe presents us with a different setting. Three are themed around landscapes, the other three around characters. In the lower part, a helmeted figure (Hermes) carries the caduceus. Narcissus looking at his reflection in the water of the fountain and a Cupid holding a torch are also depicted.12 small squares of colored enamel separate the 2 parts.
On the back, around a landscape, two black enamelled handles, flowers and polychrome birds stand out against a white background.

The object has accidents and enamel jumps but the colors and details are beautiful.
