"Virgin And Child French Catalonia Or Auvergne Late 13th Early 14th Centuries"
Virgin and Child in carved wood French Calalogne or Auvergne 13th century. Seated on a throne wearing a belted dress. Medieval Virgin and Child called "Sedes Sapientiae" carved from a wooden log The reverse is in the round with an old hook. The polychromy is partly original with traces of gold leaf and partly later, as for most statues from this region and this medieval period. The throne, the style of the faces, the size and the rear recess are quite characteristic of this Catalan or Auvergne family of Virgins and Children from the end of the 13th century or the beginning of the 14th century. These elements are to be compared with the data and iconography contained in the work "Medieval Virgins and Children of Catalonia: Perspectives. Follow-up of the Corpus of Virgins and Children (12th-15th century) of the Pyrénées-Orientales" Responsible: Marie-Pasquine Subes, Jean-Bernard Mathon, Jean-René Gaborit Presses universitaires de Perpignan, collection Histoire de l'art, n° 5, (February 2014)
