Object description :

"Rosewood Worker, Napoleon III Style, Maison Roll, Fg. St Antoine – Mid 19th Century"
This rosewood mid-century workbench, stamped by the famous Roll* house located at No. 42, Faubourg Saint-Antoine in Paris, is an exceptional piece. It opens with a drawer in a lively belt, decorated with brass threads, with an authentic lock and an inlaid brass entrance accompanied by its key. The top, with a pearly outline, is decorated with multiple threads and a central motif in chiseled and lacquered brass. This top, mounted on hinges and compasses, lifts to reveal an interior mercury mirror and an original two-point lock with an inlaid entrance and its key. The interior offers a removable compartmentalized element. The crossed legs are connected by a turned spacer, decorated with rosettes at each end, adding a touch of sophistication to this already remarkable piece. This workbench perfectly embodies the know-how of the Roll house and the elegance of the furniture once made in the Faubourg Saint-Antoine. *Maison Roll: Its founder, Joseph Roll (1810-1879), was deputy mayor of the 12th arrondissement of Paris and president of the cabinetmakers of the mutual aid society of cabinetmakers of Paris. He enjoyed great success with his eponymous company which contributed to the reputation of the Faubourg Saint-Antoine. Maison Roll was one of the official suppliers of Napoleon III. ******** Period: Mid-19th century Excellent condition Varnished finish Additional photos on the following link: https://www.antiquites-lecomte.com/boutique/table-de-jeux-et-travailleuses/travailleuse-en-palissandre-maison-roll-fg-st-antoine-milieu-xixe Delivery possible in France and internationally.
