We have not been able to identify this painter precisely. Is it the painter Jean-Jacques Moreau born in 1899 and died at the age of 28? But the dates do not seem to coincide with the period of the painting which seems older. MOREAU Jean-Jacques was born in 1899 in Saint-Quentin (Aisne). Died in 1927 in Cannes (Alpes-Maritimes). 20th century. He is a painter of figures, nudes, portraits, landscapes and also a draftsman. Jean-Jacques Moreau died of septicemia at the age of twenty-eight. Having had to interrupt his musical studies due to health reasons, he studied painting in Parisian studios and at the Louvre. He spent some time in Italy in 1922, notably in Flore ce, where he deepened his interest in Ucello's painting. His work was only recently brought to the attention of the general public. A retrospective exhibition of his works was organized at the Musée de Troyes in 1992. He was a disciple and friend of Roger de La Fresnaye. Jacques Villon said of him that he drew admirably, "like Ingres ). Jean-Jacques Moreau's landscapes and female portraits are rigorously constructed. He did not seek a graceful or expressive effect, but a renewed sense of classical measure.
