Note: This is a painting representing a landscape around Cagnes (Val de Cagnes?) by Jules Contant who was a friend of Renoir at the end of his life. He lived at the Villa Lucrèce in Cagnes not far from Renoir's Colettes and their children are roughly the same age which made it easier to make connections. Jules Contant exhibited many landscapes of Cagnes at the Salons circa 1900-1905. I think this painting was one of those exhibited on this occasion. A beautiful exhibition was organized in Blois, his hometown, in 2011.
