Our painting was exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1837, No. 848. It is the sketch of a very large painting (326 x 262 cm) commissioned in 1831 for the Ministry of the Interior. It was exhibited at the Musée du Luxembourg in the years 1860-1870, then exhibited at the Musée du Louvre.
