Simon Meister, born on December 20, 1796 in Koblenz and died on February 29, 1844 in Cologne, is a Prussian painter, known for his battle scenes and portraits. Simon Meister is the son of a saddler. His talent in drawing earned him the interest of patrons, which allowed him to leave for Paris, where he studied painting with Horace Vernet. He returned to Koblenz in 1828 and married there, before leaving with his family for Cologne in 1833, where he died about ten years later. His grave is in the Melaten cemetery in Cologne.
He depicted many important figures from Cologne, such as the perfumer Jean-Baptiste Farina, Carl Friedrich Wolf Feuerstein (de), the composer Louis Spohr or the architect Johann Claudius von Lassaulx (de), but also Prince Frederick William or Napoleon on horseback.
