Marie-Antoinette Boullard-Devé lived in Indochina from 1920 and was one of the Western artists fascinated by this country and its inhabitants. She was "commissioned" by the government for the Colonial Exhibitions in Marseille in 1922 and Paris in 1931. In addition to the Colonial Exhibitions, she was also exhibited at the Salon d'Automne (1920-1933, 1945), at the Colonial Society of French Artists (1932, 1947-1948) and at the Economic Agency of Indochina (1933).
