Beautiful oil on canvas depicting a river port near Paris, animated by a scene from the daily life of boatmen. Gustave Joseph Florimond Mascart was born in Valenciennes on March 8, 1834 and died in Paris 14th on July 16, 1912. A student of Potier and the naval painter Durand-Brager, he specialized in port or river views, focusing on realistic urban landscapes. He debuted at the 1880 salon .The painting depicts the daily life of humble boatmen in a working-class neighborhood at the time, probably on the banks of the Seine, a woman hanging out her laundry or children busy playing. The atmosphere is very working-class with loading cranes or in the background factories with smoking chimneys. Signature at the bottom right.
