Pair of covered vases in the shape of spindles in white and gold porcelain on a square-based pedestal. The handles are made of sphinxes. A double-sided decoration on the handles of scenes in grisaille from Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe. Inscriptions visible on each vase: Robinson, the Spaniard, Friday and his Father. Friday made me cross the Barge, & then he went to help his other Companions get out of the Canoe, but neither one nor the other were in a state to walk. Height 48 cm. Mark in blue underglaze with crossed arrows. Paris late 19th century.
