"Natural Lodestone Dated 18th Century"
Natural lodestone (or magnetite) with brass mounting and hanging ring.Note: these stones were essential because they allowed the needles of sundials and compasses to be remagnetized, thus maintaining their usability.
Dimensions: length 5.5 cm x total height 8.3 cm (with hanging ring).
Datable to the 18th century, probably France.
