After studying at the Escola de la Llotja in Barcelona, he went to Paris in 1879. He then produced small canvases, portraits and small urban landscapes. He then traveled to Italy and returned to Spain in 1881 where he began to participate in the National Exhibition of Fine Arts. Then in 1892, Meifren returned to Paris and began working with the French impressionists. He achieved success at the end of the 19th century when he exhibited in South America as well as in Europe. Our painting is perhaps one of those small paintings, those portraits that Meifren created at the start of his career when he came to Paris in 1879.
