Superb sculpture in glass paste, glass and copper height 44cm maximum thickness 10cm marked and dated MARTINEZ 1992 Raymond MARTINEZ is a great contemporary master glassmaker He was born in 1944. After studying literature and art, he created a first glassblowing workshop in Marseille in the 1980s. As a child, he was very attracted to the glass beads found on the Goudes side at the Verrerie cove and by the colors of the sea. Then he devoted himself to glass sculpture, thermoforming and glass paste. He likes to play with glass, water and light. For a time in the 1980s he settled in the old Auction Room on rue d'Aubagne, with its 16th century vaults, he created a monumental 2.50 m fountain for the city of Cavaillon and works of art installed in the old zoological garden of Marseille. He participated in the creation of the CIRVA (international research center on glass and plastic arts) in Marseille and in numerous exhibitions in France and abroad. He sees in the technical gestures of sandblasting and polishing techniques that bring out emotions and reveries.
