Pierre-Julien Gilbert: born in 1783 in Brest - died in 1860 in Brest.
French painter specialized in naval scenes.
Gilbert was a student of Pierre Ozanne and Louis-Philippe Crépin.
He taught painting at the Naval School from 1816, he was accepted to accompany the Navy during the invasion of Algiers in 1830.
Gilbert was a professor of drawing at the Naval School of Brest.
