This rectangular tray is richly decorated with a red base, a highly prized element in Chinese and Japanese art, often a symbol of luck and prosperity. The central motif features birds elegantly perched on flowering branches, surrounded by butterflies, in a delicate and harmonious composition. The curved edges are highlighted by golden ornamentation on a black background, which recalls the use of golden lacquer.
Birds and flowers are very common motifs in traditional Chinese art. The red background and the use of gilding can also evoke the Chinese style.
