Moissey Kogan (1879-1943) - Concrete Bas-relief, Nude, "kneeling Relief", 1928

Rare concrete bas-relief plaque "Kneeling relief" depicting a kneeling naked woman, bathing, seen from behind by Moissey (or Moïse) Kogan (1879-1946).
Of Russian origin, this leading artist, evolving in the circles of the European avant-garde since before the First World War, places the female body at the center of his artistic research.
He died at Auschwitz, his works being among those exhibited as representative of "degenerate art" from 1937.
Model of this work exhibited at the Alfred Flechtheim gallery in Berlin, and illustrated in Hugo Kubsch's article on Moissey Kogan in "Der Kunstwanderer" in February 1929 (where captioned as "terracotta") and in the n° 27 issue of the "Kunst und Künstler: illustrierte Monatsschrift für bildende Kunst und Kunstgewerbe" 1929 review - catalog of the works of the artist in process, see "moisseykogancr.org/"
