Object description :

"Badonvillois Children's Toilet Jug"
This charming pitcher was part of a child's toilet set. It features children's decorations in the style of British illustrator Kate Greenaway.
It was made in the nearby Pexonne factory or the nearby Badonviller factory

The Pexonne factory was born in the 1720s by letter patent from the Duke of Lorraine, near a forest and a quarry where eight layers of clay emerge. It is one of the oldest in Lorraine. From 1838, recruited workers for their know-how in Niderviller and Saint Clément, and counted up to 600 of them. It produced in particular common earthenware and fine earthenware The factory continued to produce in rivalry with that of Badonviller and it had a maximum of 600 workers.
After the war of 1870, with the arrival of immigrants from Sarreguemines, the quality of Pexonne earthenware evolved towards white paste and transparent enamel. The factory remained in existence until 1953.
The Badonviller factory began in 1898 with Mr. Adrian, the modeller of the Pexonne factory. Its workforce will have up to 1100 employees. The earthenware factory closed in 1991.
