Object description :

"Paul Madeline (1863 - 1920), Crozant School Impressionism Creuse Guillaumin"
This painting by Paul Madeline, a figure of post-impressionism and affiliated with the Crozant school, depicts a rural landscape typical of the region. The stone house, characteristic of the villages of Crozant, is highlighted by impressionist touches that subtly capture the variations in light and texture. Madeline opts for vibrant touches, letting the texture of the stone and vegetation show through without seeking precision, favoring a spontaneity that evokes nature with lightness.

The mauve tones, present on the path, the shadows and the roof, recall the importance of changing light in the impressionist approach. The discreet presence of a peasant woman, dressed in a dark coat, introduces a human dimension that contrasts with the lighter hues of the landscape, accentuating the peaceful atmosphere of the scene. The scene, likely located in the village of Crozant, a place appreciated by impressionist painters for its natural beauty, this work perfectly illustrates Madeline's attachment to this region.

The work in perfect condition is sold without a frame.

Dimensions: 46 x 38 cm

Paul Madeline (1863-1920)

Paul Madeline (1863-1920) is a French post-impressionist painter famous for his bucolic landscapes and his mastery of light. Born in Paris, he began as a draftsman before devoting himself to painting. He joined the Crozant school, a group of artists drawn to the beauty of the landscapes of Limousin and Creuse, becoming a major source of inspiration for his work. Influenced by Impressionism, Madeline excels in capturing light and natural atmospheres through delicate brushstrokes. His paintings often depict scenes of quiet life, with stone houses, green fields and winding paths bathed in soft light.

He mainly explored regions such as Brittany, Auvergne and, above all, Crozant, where he created compositions imbued with serenity. From 1894, he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français and co-founded the Société Moderne des Artistes, reinforcing his commitment to the post-impressionist movement. His works, which illustrate the simple beauty of French landscapes, are present in several museums in France, including those of Limoges, Guéret and Brest. Although the majority of his production is kept in private collections, he also attracts the attention of museums such as the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.
