Oil On Canvas Depicting Saint Apollonia, Umbria 16th-17th Century (150cm X 64cm)

Oil painting on canvas depicting Saint Apollonia of Alexandria, a Christian martyr venerated by the Catholic and Orthodox churches as a saint. Tradition has it that her teeth were pulled out of her mouth and for this reason she is considered the patron saint of dentists and dental technicians.

The painter decided to depict the Saint in full in a monumental form and stylistically he seems to have been inspired by the representations of the early 16th century Umbrian-Tuscan and by the purism of Perugia.

The painting measures 150 cm x 64 cm. Given the particular measurements and its verticality, it is possible that the canvas had the function of decorating a particular element of liturgical furniture.
